While the 1982 VH was the first SS Com­modore, the badge’s Aussie ori­gins date back to 1972 and the HQ SS, in ef­fect a four-door Monaro. Or a Bel­mont with stick­ers. Four years later came the LX To­rana SS hatch and the iconic SS A9X. The e LX re­mains one of only three Ss-branded Hold­ens sold with th a six-pot up front, the oth­ers be­ing the VT SS V6 and the van­ish­ingly rare VP SS V6. The SS be­came a per­ma­nent fix­ture xture in the Com­modore fir­ma­ment with the VN V8 in 1989, 989, cre­at­ing an un­bro­ken line through to to­day’s VFII.
