This guy is the hero no­body knows – a Swedish engi­neer who went from de­sign­ing ejec­tor seats in Saab fighter planes to a job at Volvo in 1958. A year later, he per­fected the three-point seat­belt. Although Volvo patented his in­ven­tion it al­lowed wide­spread use, free of roy­al­ties. By 2002, the year he died, it is es­ti­mated his in­ven­tion had saved over a mil­lion lives.
