HUNGARORING

-

Opened in 1986, the Hungaroring was originally designed to be the Monaco of the East. It has only achieved that insofar as it’s almost impossible for modern F1 cars to overtake there. Turn 4 is an unsighted nightmare where Felipe Massa copped a spring in the head back in 2009. After the tight chicane, turns 8, 9, 10 and 11 flow sinuously, but should you overcook the entry, you can easily find yourself doomed on the wrong side of the track to ever make 11. See Jean Alesi’s massive shunt in qualifying back in 1995 for proof of that. Easy to learn the basics of, but tough to master, the Hungaroring is the perfect F1 track for a fast road car.
