Toyota’s all-new M20A-FKS 2.0-litre ‘Dynamic Force’ atmo petrol four is claimed to bring world-leading thermal efficiency of 40 percent, for 21 percent more power, 15 percent more torque and six percent better economy than the decade-plus old ZR 1.8 it replaces. Lending a hand are direct injection, variable valve timing tech on each camshaft and reduced friction, and the all-alloy engine is both lighter and smaller. A 1.8 hybrid is also available; other markets get a 2.0 hybrid and the C-HR’S 1.2 turbo too.
