Heart of ’Vette
So what differentiates the LT1 engine from the LS3, which was the last atmo 6.2-litre V8 used by HSV in 2016? In a word, plenty. The current (gen-5) LT1 made its debut in the 2014 C7 Corvette, improving efficiency with direct injection and variable valve timing, as well as cylinder-shutdown tech that allows it to run as a V4 on a light throttle at highway speeds. There’s also greater sophistication in the lubrication system, utilising more efficient variable-rate oil pumps compared to the Lsseries engines. Only a handful of parts are shared between LT1 and LS3.
