WHO LANDS TOP CABIN HONOURS?

-

FORD FOCUS

Dash is a mix of two competing design proposals, and it shows. Jaguar-esque gear selector contrasts with Fiesta-class presentation levels, but beyond that, there’s space, practicality, comfort, functionality, refinement and even some German build quality to enjoy. And the available tech is modern and easy to access. Familiarisation reaps rewards. Family-friendly cargo capacity is 341L (ISO standard). Spare is a space saver.

HYUNDAI i30 N-LINE

Astute N-line detailing lifts the i30’s user-friendly and high-quality (if dull and derivative) dash, enhancing an already versatile package. Front seats also score top marks, although rear backrest may be a tad too upright for some. No shortage of storage, effortless connectivity and firm but quiet ride further bolster our admiration. Space saver spare means boot volume is 395L (VDA).

KIA CERATO GT

Dash is nearly flawless with its wide, flowing elegance. Instrumentation clarity is perhaps industry best and no hatch here is quite as spacious. However, lowerlevel plastics feel cheap compared to i30, seats provide adequate rather than truly impressive comfort and noisy ride turns tiresome very quickly. Spare is a space saver.

TOYOTA COROLLA

Attention to detail is remarkable in latest Corolla, from the welcoming driving position to lovely controls and dash’s simple purity. ZR’S instruments messier than lowerspec analogue dials, but it’s the only one here with head-up display. Rear row lacks storage, and boot capacity is a paltry 217L, even with a space-saver spare fitted.
