MERCEDES-BENZ GLS 350D
The X7’s jump on Merc’s ageing GLS will only last until late this year or early next when Benz’s new-gen seven-seater SUV arrives. Until then, here’s how they stack up: the GLS is 20mm shorter and 18mm narrower than the BMW, and kicks off from $119,100 for the 350d (a Sport version adds $19,000.) Above this is the GLS 500, with 320kw/700nm from its 4.7-litre TT V8. It’s priced at $165,500, indicating where BMW Australia will need to peg the X7 xdrive 50i, if it comes here.
