JAPANESE TURBO JIBE FULL OF HOT AIR

Wheels (Australia) - - YOUR SAY -

LIKE PETER STEELE (Wheels, December 2019) I’m a 50-year veteran of the magazine, and I must defend my Japanese car mates against the slur that they refuse to get with the turbo ‘program’ in their small cars. Has Peter never heard of Mitsubishi, Subaru or Suzuki? Is the Suzy Swift not small enough? Mitsu had the Colt Ralliart for a while.

The ‘program’ followed by the Japanese has been guided by the cold hard facts of costs versus performance. There has been no lack of technological expertise in turbocharging small motors. But as an old fart, I still prefer the noise of a naturally aspirated donk – although I must admit to a short flirtation with a Turbo 300ZX.
