Future proofing
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF the Artura is clear in terms of the company’s future product roadmap. If recent history is any guide, in the short to medium term we’ll see an Artura Spider and a more powerful Artura LT. Longer term, the HPH powertrain and the MCLA architecture will spawn replacements for the 720S and the GT, among others.
But is a singular vehicle concept, no matter how cleverly it’s sliced and diced, enough to ensure McLaren’s long-term future? Porsche realised more than 30 years ago that it couldn’t survive just building sports cars. Lamborghini and Aston Martin have come to the same conclusion. Insiders insist McLaren will remain a purist sports car maker. We’ll see.
