New engine, new era
Maserati’s new engine facility is a blend of low-volume, artisan engineer scale and contemporary tech. Each Nettuno V6 comprises 1300 parts, which arrive in a combination of sub-assemblies (the pre-chambers are pre-installed) and trays of parts. The heads are built-up separately, pegged to prevent the timing slipping, then fitted. Tech ensures accuracy and quality. The facility is pressurised, to keep out dust. Each work station has a touchscreen tutorial, and there are fail-safes; only the right bearings are dispensed for each stage, for example, and cameras monitor crucial torqueing-up sequences.
