Renowned singer and ac­tress Patti Lupone is per­form­ing her crit­i­cally ac­claimed “Don’t Mon­key with Broad­way” this month. Lupone is a mul­ti­ple Tony and Grammy Award win­ner, who was in­ducted into the Amer­i­can Theater Hall of Fame in 2006. In “Don’t Mon­key with Broad­way”, Lupone ex­plores, through in­deli­ble in­ter­pre­ta­tions of clas­sic Broad­way show tunes, how her life-long love af­fair with Broad­way be­gan and her con­cern for what Man­hat­tan’s Theatre District—the Great White Way—is be­com­ing to­day.

This month, Doo-bop Jazz Bar cel­e­brates its first an­niver­sary! To mark 12 months of fan­tas­tic live mu­sic at their venue, they’re host­ing 12 hours of non-stop live jazz on 22 June. Doo-bop will be kick­ing off the cel­e­bra­tions that day with a spe­cial lunchtime per­for­mance in the Pi­ano Bar by ver­sa­tile pi­anist Cleon Barraclough, while the evening will see a show from the pop­u­lar J-funk + Jeremy O’connor. Down­stairs in the Jazz Bar base­ment that evening, you’ll find the inim­itable Ge­orge Wash­ing­ma­chine Quar­tet from Sydney, who’ll be per­form­ing with spe­cial guest Ingrid James. This act will be fol­lowed by Doo-bop’s sig­na­ture Late-night Open Jazz Jam, which will be hosted that night by the Sacha K Trio. On 23 June, the David Bent­ley Quar­tet will be fea­tur­ing spe­cial guest Ric Halstead on sax, while the Peter Upp­man and Rus­sell Bayne All­stars will play at the sen­sa­tional Swing­ing Sun­day event on 24 June. An­other high­light act this month will be Phil Stack from Thirsty Merc, who’ll be launch­ing his new al­bum at Doo-bop on 7 June. He’ll be play­ing in solo mode, han­dling the vo­cal, pi­ano and dou­ble bass du­ties in a set of orig­i­nal songs from the al­bum. 101 Ed­ward Street, Bris­bane. 3151 7520.
