LES CLEFS D’OR
BRISBANE IS WELL INTO the hotter months of the year now, with some days reaching a draining 40° Celsius. I highly recommend that a generous application of sunscreen be applied to the exposed parts of the body and that you stay well hydrated.
■ One of the best ways to avoid the summer heat in the city is to visit Streets Beach at South Bank, which is a small man-made beach overlooking the city and Brisbane River. Please note, it is a patrolled beach within particular hours of the day.
■ Recently Perry Yiannakis, the Chief Concierge at the Sofitel Brisbane Central and active member of Les Clefs d’or, was invited on an amazing helicopter tour, he shares his experience with us: “If you’re looking for a unique experience in Brisbane, Ben West from Airborne Solutions has the perfect answer. Ben’s knowledge of Queensland was most impressive as he flew me in his R44 helicopter from Archerfield airport up to Mount Tamborine for a morning coffee at Albert River Estate and wedding venue. After enjoying a tour of the property Ben and I flew over Wivenhoe Dam and then on to Broadbeach where we took a left turn to fly up past Surfers Paradise all the way up North Stradbroke Island landing on the pristine Moreton Island, not before seeing dolphins surf the waves and sharks swimming in the deep. Here we stopped off at The Gutter Bar and enjoyed the freshest of seafood lunches and some cold drinks. Airborne Solutions offer tailored packages to suit any budget for any special occasion.” For bookings contact Ben on 0401 450 980 or visit airbornesolutions.com.au
■ For the sports lover, another big event in Brisbane is the Brisbane Global Tens Rugby tournament, which will be held at Suncorp Stadium on 9 and 10 February. There will be approximately 300 players from 12 international men’s teams and four women’s teams. This is only the second time this tournament has been conducted, building on the success from last year. Tickets are available from brisbaneglobaltens.com/tickets
■ The Brisbane Comedy Festival runs from 23 February until 25 March, with a large number of Australian and international comedians, guaranteed to make you laugh. The main venue is the heritage-listed Brisbane Powerhouse located in New Farm Park. Tickets are available from brisbanecomedyfestival.com
■ As always if you would like to arrange a day trip or any other similar activities, please consult your friendly hotel concierge. If your hotel is fortunate enough to have a member of Les Clefs d’or, they are the concierge with the shiny gold keys on their uniforms, seek them out for greater knowledge and experience.
