LONE PINE KOALA SANC­TU­ARY.

At Lone Pine Koala Sanc­tu­ary you can cud­dle a koala in a de­light­ful bushland set­ting on the edge of the Bris­bane River at Fig Tree Pocket. Of­fi­cially recog­nised by Guin­ness World Records, Lone Pine Koala Sanc­tu­ary is the world’s first and largest koala sanc­tu­ary, with more than 80 years’ ex­pe­ri­ence and 130 koalas.

■ RIVER CITY CRUISES. SIR THOMAS BRIS­BANE PLAN­E­TAR­IUM.

Founded by Bris­bane City Coun­cil in 1978, the Sir Thomas Bris­bane Plan­e­tar­ium is a must-see at­trac­tion for sci­ence lovers. Take in one of the shows in the Cos­mic Sky­dome, a 12.5-me­tre-di­am­e­ter pro­jec­tion dome. Cur­rent shows in­clude ‘Starlight’, ‘Cap­tur­ing

the Cos­mos’ and ‘Cos­mic Col­li­sions’. Each show in­cludes the main fea­ture and a tour of Bris­bane’s night sky which is recre­ated in the Cos­mic Sky­dome. The plan­e­tar­ium can be found in the Bris­bane Botanic Gar­dens at Mt Coot-tha.

STORY BRIDGE AD­VEN­TURE CLIMB.

This is one of only three bridge climbs in the world. ■ CITY BOTANIC GAR­DENS. With their im­pres­sive colo­nial his­tory, plant col­lec­tions and river­side lo­ca­tion, the City Botanic Gar­dens are a much beloved part of the cityscape. The City Botanic Gar­dens are only a 10 to 15 minute walk from the city cen­tre and Cen­tral or Roma Street rail­way sta­tions. Free guided walks avail­able Mon– Sat at 11am and 1pm (ex­clud­ing pub­lic hol­i­days and from mid-dec to late Jan).

■ ROMA STREET PARK­LAND. One of Bris­bane’s trea­sures, Roma Street Park­land is a breath­tak­ing oa­sis in the heart of the city. The largest sub­trop­i­cal park­land in an ur­ban en­vi­ron­ment in the world, its di­verse themed gar­dens re­flect the va­ri­ety of the Aus­tralian land­scape. The Park­land also fea­tures Aus­tralia’s largest out­door col­lec­tion of pub­lic art. Ad­mis­sion is free, and free-guided tours op­er­ate daily at 11am and 1pm.
