Sit back and relax this month with a gin in hand. We’ve scoured the city to find the best gin bars in town, so you don’t have to. Whether you are after a classic G&T, or a modern cocktail, gin’s the word. Bottoms up! Gin Lane

You’ll find this small bar in trendy Kensington Street in Chippendale. Housed in a beautiful 18th Century terrace house, gin lovers can head here to try over 80 different gins. Taste their ‘Aussie G&T’, with Archie Rose gin, bush tonic, mint, fresh citrus and lemon myrtle. Marvel at the smoky wonder of the ‘Gunpowder Plot’ cocktail, with smoked gunpowder gin, spiced syrup, Fernet-branca, citrus oil and tea smoke. Poor Toms Gin Hall

Located in the industrial back streets of the inner-west suburb of Marrickville, you’ll find Poor Toms Gin Hall. This craft distillery is purely dedicated to making gin, and their recently opened Gin Hall has a cool and casual feel. Perch on a stool along the marbletopped bar and enjoy handcrafted gins, limited release distillations and a variety of gin-based cocktails, which use seasonal produce and inspired botanicals. 6 Chalder Avenue, Marrickville. 9557 2282. poortomsgin.com.au

Archie Rose

This Sydney distillery produces its own range of gin, vodka and whisky, and you can even take a tour (by appointment) and learn first-hand about making spirits. Archie Rose’s Signature Dry Gin is a favourite—try it in a ‘Stranger Things’ cocktail with fresh grapefruit and lemon juice, lavender syrup, topped with soda and served tall. Gin lovers will go to heaven with the ‘Australian Gin Flight’, offering tastings of five of Australia’s best gins. 85 Dunning Avenue, Rosebery. 8458 2300. archierose.com.au
