Fix to bulk billing

Whitsunday Times - - YOUR SAY -

I SEEK to clarify a few points in relation to your article on GP visits and bulk-billing (WT, 21/03/18).

For the people of the Whitsundays, a private GP clinic’s decision to stop universal bulk billing is a serious issue.

The Government is now reintroducing indexation of the rebate starting from July 1, for standard GP consultations.

I’ve spoken to local doctors, both in Mackay and the Whitsundays, the Medicare rebate freeze is not the overriding problem when it comes to offering more bulk-billing.

I am organising a local doctors’ forum to thrash out the solutions and I have invited the Minister for Rural Health Bridget McKenzie to attend.

In relation to the situation in Proserpine, I’m talking to Queensland Health about what can be done to re-establish a bulk-billing primary care unit at Proserpine Hospital.

Can Labor’s candidate give a guarantee they will be able to reintroduce more wholesale bulk-billing options if elected?

Can they give a guarantee that if they can’t introduce more bulk-billing that they will resign from office? If there are no solutions or guarantees, all I am hearing is noise.
