Hitting the green for June carnival
BOWLS: Ladies B-Grade singles was won by Elaine Kippen who defeated Rhonda Lloyd 25 games to 10.
The Whitsunday June Carnival was played over Saturday and Sunday.
Sixteen teams of fours played in the competition of seven games of 13 ends each.
Visiting teams came from Proserpine, Mackay, St Helens and Wangaratta to take part.
First prize-winning team was from Mackay – K. Tranberg, C Savage, R Dunn and B Brown. The Mackay team won five games, lost one game , drew a game and achieved a score of 11+11.
Second placegetters, a team of district players – Joyce Bloomfield, Lois DeGuara, Rose McDermott and Nuggy Pratt – won five games and achieved a score of 10+33.
Third placegetters from South Suburban Mackay achieved a score of 10+26 and fourth team skipped by Merv Tickle came from Wangaratta and got a score of 10+1. The weather was perfect for the carnival and the prizes were presented by major sponsor Margo Stanley and ABBC chairman Andy Bell.
Buddy Homes Day will be held on Sunday, June 17, and will be sponsored by Buddy’s sister Patsy Black.
All bowlers welcome. If you haven’t already done so please register interest by phoning the club. Start is 12.30pm for 1pm start time, the same as social bowls.
Men’s Pennant: There is a break of two weeks while the Australian opens are being played.
Ladies Pennant Results: Round 2. Division 2 Airlie Beach at home was defeated by Northern Beaches.
Tuesday Ladies Social Bowls: Two rinks played. Winning team was Lu Rogan, Louise Mahony and Lane Telford who defeated Eileen Halliday, Di Dobbins and Doreen Peadon 19-14.
Wednesday Mixed Social Bowls: Eighteen players filled three rinks on Sunday afternoon.
Scroungers on Saturday morning is 9.30am for a 10am start.
