Lure of region attracts editor

Whitsunday Times - - YOUR SAY - GREGOR MACTAGGART Editor

MY name is Gregor Mactaggart and I’m excited about being the new editor of the Whitsunday Times.

The opportunity to live and work in this wonderful part of Australia was the lure for me to make the move north with my partner Kate, daughter Alice and our dog Norman.

Before arriving in Cannonvale, I spent 13 months as editor of the Swan Hill Guardian ,a tri-weekly newspaper in northwest Victoria.

As a kid I loved newspapers and as a teenager had paper rounds in the morning and afternoon.

When I finished school, there was only one industry I wanted to be a part of.

For the past 14 years I have worked in the newspaper game, enjoying stints at dailies in Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and the Northern Territory.

I’m passionate about local communities and understand the vital role that newspapers play in them.

Ross McPherson, the proprietor of McPherson Media, said during my days in Shepparton that a good local newspaper should be a town talking to itself.

Through the good, the bad, the triumphs, the tragedies, those words will ring true during my time at the helm of the Times.
