Vis­i­tors wel­comed at Air­lie Beach bridge

BRIDGE: Dur­ing the past cou­ple of weeks Air­lie Beach Bridge Club has wel­comed vis­i­tors from Proser­pine, Bowen and Port Mac­quarie.

All have com­mented favourably on the play­ers’ new venue at the “Ma­rine Club­house” at the VMR build­ing.

Eric Bot­tle gave thanks to Pros­per­ine duo Dot and Bev for three full ta­bles on the morn­ing of June 15.

First place was a tie be­tween Linda Pri­day with Annie Vaughan and Dot Aspinall with Bev Gage all with 61 per cent.

Dale Hell and Eric Bot­tle scraped into third with 51 per cent.

Di Dobbins was wel­comed to the club on June 19 as she’s been a long-time bridge ac­quain­tance of the club af­ter be­ing “in­ac­tive” for a cou­ple of years.

A chilly night at the VMR didn’t de­ter Linda and Gil­lian who breezed home with 59 per cent, Annie and Neil not that far be­hind in sec­ond with 56 per cent, Cor­rie and He­len third with 52 per cent.

On June 22; Bowen pair El­lie and Betty vis­ited again and showed their ex­pe­ri­ence win­ning with 66 per cent, sec­ond were Neil Cawthorne and Annie Vaughan with 55 per cent, Eric Bot­tle and Joy El­lis mak­ing it into third place with 48 per cent.

Last Tues­day, Port Mac­quarie vis­i­tors Noe­line and Terry McKenna played a fast game with Eric and Re­nate.

The win went to Re­nate and Eric with 63 per cent, closely fol­lowed by Linda, Gil­lian, Noe­line and Terry equal sec­ond with 59 per cent with Neil and Annie in third.

There was only one “flat” hand = one NT makes seven at all three ta­bles.

Spades was the flavour of the night with three boards played, only one in NT, H and D which leaves 19 played in as­sorted suits.

High­est score of the night went to Re­nate and Eric with 690 for three NT +3, there were a cou­ple of other +3’s, even a +4 but not bid to game.

The low­est score also went to Re­nate and Eric with – 400 for two NT mak­ing eight be­cause Eric had a “rush of blood” and re­sponded two NT to Re­nate’s open­ing.

Fri­day morn­ing showed Noe­line and Terry adapted to Air­lie Beach well win­ning with 63 per cent just edg­ing out Annie and Neil, fol­lowed by Linda and Gil­lian.

Not one “flat” hand from this Tues­day’s play de­spite five boards be­ing played in S at all three ta­bles, three in NT three in Hand one in D.

High­est score for the day went to Noe­line and Terry for 4SX mak­ing 12 = score 1190, on Board 16.

Both other ta­bles also bid 4S mak­ing 12 Noe­line and Terry also bid and made 6S (980), and 4H Mak­ing 13 (510).

As did Dewi and Trevor; Re­nate and Sigi bid and made 6NT (990) and 4NT mak­ing 12 (490).
