A MAN rid­ing a Vespa mo­tor­cy­cle with two pas­sen­gers on the back fled af­ter his al­leged at­tempt to evade po­lice ended in strife last Thurs­day.

Po­lice in­ter­cepted the bike on Air­lie Esp about 8.35pm, but the driver crashed as he el­legedly tried to get away. Po­lice said the man ran into a li­censed venue on Main St, where he was ar­rested. He recorded an al­leged blood al­co­hol con­cen­tra­tion read­ing of 0.174. Both pas­sen­gers suf­fered mi­nor in­juries in­clud­ing gravel rash. A 41-year-old Can­non­vale man will face Proser­pine Mag­is­trates Court on charges of dan­ger­ous op­er­a­tion of a mo­tor ve­hi­cle while ad­versely af­fected by liquor, evad­ing po­lice, fail­ing to re­main at a traf­fic crash, drink driv­ing and fail­ure to no­tify change of ad­dress.
