SWIMMING: Cannonvale Cannons hosted its last club night for 2018 with a Christmas theme.

Swimmers participated in some normal races and fun Christmas relays and really enjoyed the block of ice relay.

The winner was the team with biggest block of ice at the end of the relay.

Coaches were impressed by the team work and how senior swimmers supported junior swimmers.

The club also presented Jacob Dewis, Mikhaila Flint and coach, Mark Erickson with their state shirts and wished them all the best at the state championships in Brisbane.

Also, this week, Swimming Queensland coach Barry Prime facilitated swim clinics at the Cannonvale pool on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

More than 60 swimmers participated in the workshops.

A total of 15 Cannonvale Cannons were selected for the SNQ Level 1 and 2 development clinics in Mackay on Sunday. But, only Jacob and Tiana Bell risked the wet conditions to attend the clinics.

Highlights from club night include:

Lucas Purdie and Jai Dennison winning prizes for their best Christmas costumes.

Top performers of the night were Tane Dennison, Blake Hanks, Mila Westley, Jack Moir and Susannah Putland swimming personal best times in all their events.

Also, swimming well and achieving a personal best time was Nelson Malady, Thomas Ganter, Eve Carter-Attwood, Jai Dennison, Skye Brodhurst, Juke Ferguson, Lily Maher, Emily Putland, Hayden Bradley, Tiana Bell and Austin Edwards-Bland. Jacob Dewis and Orry Ferguson smashed their 50m freestyle times.

Jacob swam a time of 27.27 sec and Orry swam an impressive 32.37 sec.

A special mention to Matilda Dennison who took eight seconds off her 50m butterfly time.

The Cannonvale Cannons Swimming Club would like to thank all the parents for really embracing the Christmas theme and bringing a great array of food for club night.

The club would like to thank all the families for all their support throughout 2018.

Swim training will continue over the school holidays preparing swimmers for Ayr and Cannonvale Swim Carnivals coming up in January.
