And what a year it has been for the Whitsunday community. ‘Growing our Region’ has been the primary focus this year as Council continues to improve key infrastructure which creates more local jobs. Growth of our region will not just happen; it needs Council and our community working together. We reside in the best region in the world so maintaining and improving liveability is a high priority. Council believes that providing residents with improved facilities and services will help us achieve our goal of an economically strong and thriving community. Our relentless advocacy efforts to all levels of government have reaped big dividends with over $180 million secured from Federal and State for our region. Major projects that will be completed in the next 12 months include the $22 million restoration of Shute Harbour, the $15 million terminal expansion at Whitsunday Coast Airport, $19.5 million to build a new Bowen Sewerage Treatment Plant and to improve effluent quality, a $3 million Proserpine Main Street upgrade, $1 million to upgrade facilities at Lake Proserpine, a $6.3 million Airlie Beach Foreshore Revitalisation and the $5 million ‘Beautiful Bowen’ project. Whitsunday terminal M $15 complement Airport Coast to expansion upgrade runway Phew!! Rolling out such a huge capital program of more than 145 projects put pressure on our CEO Barry Omundson and our hard working council team but they have all stepped up to the plate and delivered. As we celebrate this festive season, I hope you all get to spend time with family and friends. Let us use this time to reflect and count our blessings. The greatest gift we could exchange this season is to serve one another. May I ask you all to remember your neighbours at this time of year, especially the elderly and those who live alone. I would also like to extend a special welcome to those who have come home to the Whitsundays to be with their families and hope that you have a wonderful time. From the coalfields of Collinsville to the beautiful beaches in Bowen, the cracking barra fishing at Lake Proserpine and the amazing islands off Airlie Beach and Cannonvale, on behalf of the Whitsunday Regional Council, can I wish all residents a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in 2019. s Service Customer Cannonvale opens Centre $8.6 M Proserpine Administration Building / Disaster / Climate Change Hub Proud to be your council Andrew Willcox Mayor CollinsvilleRVparkopens! upgrade Foreshore Works 4 Queensland (2 rounds) $8.4M $80M NDRRA Disaster Funding Airlie Proserpine Main Street consultation refurbishment building Bowen admin $116M Capital Projects completed Works 4 QLD Stage 2 Free use Wi-Fi & at regional computer libraries $7M Tourism Infrastructure Recovery Fund $5M funding for Beautiful Bowen project ugprade Whitsunday Coast Airport www.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au [email protected].au 1300 WRC QLD (972 753)
