The comedian faces blow-back from the highest office

-

SHE’S MADE A CAREER OUT OF COURTING controversy with outrageous remarks about celebrities, but straight-talking comedian Kathy Griffin, 56, admits that she “crossed a line” on May 30 when she posted a graphic photograph of herself holding a fake, decapitated head of President Donald Trump. “I went way too far,” she tweeted in a video after posting the shot by photographer Tyler Shields. “The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people, it wasn’t funny.”

Trump himself invoked his youngest child, Barron, criticising Griffin as “sick” for the photo. “Kathy Griffin should be ashamed of herself,” he tweeted. “My children, especially my 11-year-old son, Barron, are having a hard time with this.” Days later—after she was dropped from her CNN New Year’s Eve hosting gig and faced cancellations on her Celebrity Run-ins tour—griffin held a press conference. She tearfully accused Trump and his family of “bullying” her, revealing she has been getting daily death threats and is currently under investigation by the Secret Service. “A sitting president of the United States and his grown children and the First Lady are personally trying to ruin my life forever,” she said. “You guys know him, he’s not going to stop. I don’t think I will have a career after this. I’m going to be honest, he broke me.” The comic also felt she was being targeted because she is a woman. “This wouldn’t be happening to a guy. It’s a woman thing,” she said. “I’m the easiest target. I’m a D-list comedian.”
