No-one in his family has ever been divorced!”
Sitting in the second row as the couple said “I do”—at one point they sat on low stools, with the train of Chastain’s strapless gown (reportedly an Alexander Mcqueen) fanning out behind her—was her Interstellar co-star Anne Hathaway. She arrived beaming with her husband, Adam Shulman, and Emily Blunt, who starred with the bride in The Huntsman:
Winter’s War. One famous friend not there in person was Chastain’s The Help co-star Octavia Spencer, but she was with the bride in spirit, writing on Instagram, “I hate that I missed your big day, but you know I couldn’t be more thrilled for you.”
Buzz that Chastain’s Wilde Salome director Al Pacino would walk her down the aisle appeared false, but Passi de Preposulo wasn’t lacking in supporters—photos showed he had eight groomsmen. All Chastain, 40, needed was her man, whom she met in 2012 when he was director of public relations for Armani. With the fashion exec based in Milan, she moved from Los Angeles to New York in 2013 because “it’s just so much closer to Europe,” and said in 2014 she was “very, very happy” with Passi de Preposulo, 34, who now works for luxury lifestyle brand Moncler. “It’s a wonderful thing when a career does so well and your personal life goes so well.”
About an hour north of Venice, the villa has been in the groom’s family since the 1800s—it produces its own prosecco and grows fruit including “cherries, apricots, apples, pears and quinces,” The Guardian reported in 2013. Also in the groom’s family? An honorary title: Gian Luca’s father is Count Alberto Passi de Preposulo. “It’s not the title that’s important,” the groom told Vanity Fair in a 2009 profile. “You have to be a count inside yourself.”
With the vows over, Chastain looked like she couldn’t care less she is not a countess just yet. Sticking close by her husband, she laughed with friends before the wedding feast. While the couple are still in the honeymoon phase, the star has said she wants a family. “But when I do have kids,” she told The Telegraph in 2014, “I want to make them my priority, not my work.”
