L Who n The pop star offers fans a glimpse beyond the glam into her raw reality
AS PART OF THE RELEASE OF her new album, Witness (see p. 75), Katy Perry live-streamed her life from June 9–12 on her personal Youtube channel. Filmed by five cameras in a Los Angeles residence where she has set up camp, Perry let fans watch her doing yoga, cooking with Gordon Ramsay, throwing a dance party and even sleeping with her pup Nugget.
The cameras captured a tearful chat with TV therapist Dr Siri Sat Nam Singh, in which Perry, 32, revealed she feels torn between “Katy Perry, pop star” and “Katheryn Hudson,” the “dork” her family and close friends know. Getting a drastic pixie haircut, “I didn’t want to look like Katy Perry anymore,” she said, adding that the style had provoked abuse on social media. She also opened up about her past battles with alcohol, conceding she had struggled with suicidal thoughts. “I feel ashamed that I would have those thoughts, feel that low and that depressed,” she said through tears. “I just want to be loved.”
On that note, Perry addressed her feud with Taylor Swift in a Thrive Global podcast. “I am ready to let it go,” she said. “I forgive her and I’m sorry for anything I ever did, and I hope the same from her … I love her and I want the best for her. And I think she’s a fantastic songwriter.”
During a Truth or Dare–style game with James Corden, she was pressed to rank her lovers (from worst to best) Diplo, Orlando Bloom and John Mayer. “They’re all amazing lovers,” she wailed. “I would have sex with all of them after I get out of this place.”
