Bobbi Kristina’s Sad Childhood
The film Whitney explores how her parents’ troubles devastated Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown’s only daughter, Bobbi Kristina “Krissy” Brown—who herself died at 22, six months after being found unconscious in a bathtub under eerily similar circumstances to her mum’s death. “She hated her life,” says Houston’s sister-in-law and Whitney executive producer Pat Houston, during her documentary interview. It was a life troubled from the start. In one scene, a close family friend, Ellen “Aunt Bae” White, describes how Krissy arrived on her doorstep as a newborn. Whitney had allegedly checked herself out of hospital early and showed up “hunched over” asking her to “bathe” the baby. A tearful White claims that Houston didn’t return for months and that Krissy went on to live with her until she was 8. In the film, Bobbi Kristina is shown snorting a powdered substance and Pat Houston details a time she was hospitalised for cutting her arms. Despite loving her, Whitney and Bobby “didn’t take care of Krissy,” claims family friend and employee Laurie Badami. “They just left her to the wolves.” —J.R.
