PREGNANCY MIRACLE
The singer shares her baby joy and heartbreaking miscarriage battle
WITH A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL career, a loving husband and a young son, Carrie Underwood appears to have it all, but the country music star has opened up about her fertility struggles, revealing she suffered three miscarriages in the past two years.
Speaking to CBS Sunday Morning on Sept. 16, the pregnant “Cry Pretty” singer, who has son Isaiah, 3, with her husband, retired ice-hockey star husband Mike Fisher, 38, held back tears talking about her miscarriages. “I’d kind of planned that 2017 was, you know, going to be the year that I work on new music, and I have a baby,” said Underwood. “We got pregnant early 2017, and didn’t work out.”
The devout the Christian said her strong faith got her through the trauma, adding, “In the beginning, it was like, ‘OK, God, we know this is, just wasn’t your timing. And that is all right. We will bounce back and figure our way through it.’ ”
After suffering a second miscarriage in 2017 and a third in 2018, a heartbroken Underwood tried to stay positive. “I had always been afraid to be angry,” Underwood, 35, explained. “Because we are so blessed. And my son, Isaiah, is the sweetest thing. And I’m like, ‘If we can never have any other kids, that’s OK, because he’s amazing.’ And I have this amazing life. Like, really, what can I complain about? I can’t. I have an incredible husband, incredible friends, an incredible job, an incredible kid. Can I be mad? No.”
However, when she thought she might be suffering a fourth miscarriage, the American Idol winner said she “got mad”. “For the first time, I feel like I actually told God how I felt. That was like a Saturday — and the Monday I went to the doctor to, like, confirm, another miscarriage. And they told me everything was great!”
The singer and Fisher, who wed in 2010, announced their baby news on Aug. 8. •
