Emmy Awards
Hollywood TV’S night of nights brought all the glitz, glamour and plenty of big wins
Small-screen sirens were on full display at the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Nominated for her incredible performance in The Sinner, Jessica Biel, 36, donned a stunning white gown from Australian label Ralph & Russo. She teamed it with a beaming smile – which, according to Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew, who attended the event – was mostly due to being smitten by her date, husband of six years Justin Timberlake, 37.
“It’s clear they are absolutely infatuated with each other. We could see them holding hands behind Jessica’s back while she was doing
interviews and they sent ‘secret’ signals to their son on camera,” says Bartholomew. “They were the king and queen of the gold carpet!”
Speaking of royalty, The Crown actresses Vanessa Kirby, 30, and Claire Foy, 34, opted for neutral and white dresses. Foy, who played a young Queen Elizabeth, was the winner in the Best Actress in a Drama category and she gave a nod to Prince Philip, aka her co-star Matt Smith from the stage.
Meanwhile, actress Scarlett Johansson, 33, scored some backstage tickets from boyfriend, Colin Jost, who hosted the show. “She posed for photos at the beginning of the carpet and then skipped the rest!” Bartholomew says.
And TV’S elite weren’t the only ones heating up on the Gold Carpet – the Emmys budget may have dropped the cost for air-conditioning. “It was set up in what felt like a greenhouse. It was 30 degrees outside and felt like 40 inside. We brought our own fan to save us from passing out!” Bartholomew adds. Once the A-listers made their way into the ceremony, The
Marvelous Mrs Maisel took home a good portion of the early awards. “The lead actor Rachel Brosnahan had her name butchered on stage by Tiffany Haddish and Angela Bassett, but she didn’t seem to mind. Her stunning red dress would have fit right in at the Oscars. 10/10!” says Bartholomew.
And while Australian actors such as The Handmaid’s Tale’s Yvonne Strahovski (who happened to show off her baby bump) and Dirty John’s Eric Bana were in their element at the Emmys, it appears US audiences are also ready to adopt Aussie comedian Hannah Gadsby “to host next year’s Emmys,” adds Bartholomew. The 40-year-old presented an absent Stephen Daldry with the Best Director of a Drama Series Emmy for The Crown. “She delivered one of the funniest moments!” says Bartholomew.
