Fans have waited with bated breath for the release of Season 3 of hit period drama, The Crown. And while audiences still have some time to go before for the Netflix series is ready to stream, WHO has some brand new informatio­n to tide fans over, with images from the set showing an intimate family gathering for one of the Queen’s famous Balmoral barbecues. The scene appears to be a re-creation of a famous image of Prince Philip and his daughter Princess Anne.

Season 3 picks up in 1964, and covers Harold Wilson’s 12 years as the British Prime Minister, while focusing on the political and personal events that shaped the monarchy. Executive producer Suzanne Mackie recently revealed that this season will unveil the beginnings of Camilla Parker Bowles and Prince Charles’ relationsh­ip, as well as the breakdown of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon’s marriage. The Princess Diana years won’t make an appearance on the show until Season 4.

As each season covers a different era, the show has been recast with fresh faces. “It was very sad to say goodbye to the Season 1 cast; they were brilliant,” Mackie told The

Hollywood Reporter. Actress Claire Foy – who won an Emmy for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II and dedicated her award to the show’s next generation – has handed the crown to Olivia Colman. Alongside Colman will be Josh O’connor as Prince Charles, Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Jason Watkins as Harold Wilson, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, and Marion Bailey as the Queen’s mother.
