The Bachelor
The truth about the baby news, breakdowns and behind-the-scene blow-ups
MEETING THE PARENTS OF your partner is challenging enough, but meeting the entire families of four girls you’ve been dating on national television is a whole different ball game, and it’s one Wallabies winger Nick Cummins might have to face alone. No matter who he chooses, The Bachelor’s Nick is adamant he’s looking for the mother of his future children. “I’m one of eight; I know what it’s like to be in a big family,” he tells WHO. “I’ll definitely be having a couple of kids at some point.”
Front-runner Brittany Hockley shares a lot in common with Nick, including being born in the same hospital, but says she’s not ready to use the big “L” word just yet. “For me, it’s not easy to throw the word ‘love’ around, it’s also hard to get to that point when you know there are other people involved,” she tells WHO. “I know it’s happening, the feelings are really strong, I want to be with Nick – but I just feel like it would happen really quickly for us if it’s me at the end – so it’s just hard to cross that line when there are three other people left.
“I can see myself marrying someone like Nick. You can tell he’s a real family person; he will be a really good dad. The guy has more energy than anyone I’ve ever met. [ Laughs] You know, you’d be able to pop the kids outside and be like, ‘Off you go!’
“He’s just a really genuine, caring guy so I can see myself falling for and marrying someone like Nick.”
Someone who wasn’t as caring and managed to rub Brittany up the wrong way, was former best friend Cass Wood, who left her fellow contestants in the dark about her previous relationship with Nick, 30. “I feel hurt because Cass has always adamantly told me that nothing has happened between them. She lied to me the whole time,” Britt said on the Sept. 27 episode of The Bachelor. “It came out at my home town. And I was mortified. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life. I feel stupid,” she continued.
Unpleasantness aside, Britt admits she would be devastated if she didn’t have a future with the Honey Badger, but she maintains she won’t put her life on hold for anyone. “At this stage, things are getting real and there are a lot of strong feelings there… This point comes and you start to see each other together and you realise this could be something really good. While I’d be really hurt, everything in life depends on how you react in certain situations. I’d be hurt, but you’ve just got to get on with it... For me, personally, I’m not going to lock
myself in my room and cry.”
However, if the lovable larrikin does choose in her favour, any future plans would be a mutual decision. “I’m not one of those girls who plans their wedding and picks their ring and dress. It would be a small or medium wedding; I want something really low-key like maybe on a beach. And then a party with friends.”
Meanwhile, Sophie Tieman, is confident in taking home the final rose because their relationship has continued to blossom over the season. “Nick and I connected really well,” she tells WHO. “It’s a shame you haven’t been able to see it too much just yet.”
Sophie went on to reveal that not everything that happened on the show has been aired. “The conversation keeps flowing whether the cameras are there or not – everything we said and experienced was real.”
Cass also explained that producers had cut out a special moment she shared with Nick. There was a point where we spent time together and we actually walked away,” she says. “We had a private moment and chatted.”
Even though she’d “only really taken two guys back to meet Mum and Dad,” property valuer Sophie, 25, says she wasn’t concerned about Nick meeting her folks, “I had a feeling Nick would walk in and it’d feel like he’d been there forever.” Despite this, the blonde says it’d be a deal-breaker if her parents didn’t approve. “I would seriously consider their input and evaluate the situation.” Sophie adds Nick is everything she’s looking for in a future partner, but he isn’t her perfect man. “Everyone I’ve been with has been different so I don’t have a perfect guy.”
Although Cass and Nick’s love story didn’t work out the first time, the student is convinced Nick is the only man for her. “He is the guy I want to be with, I want to be the girl who comes out with him on the other side,” she tells WHO. The 23-year-old says timing didn’t favour the couple in the past, but the fact they both ended up on the show is a sign they’re meant to be together. “I have never felt the way I feel about him with anyone else ... I wasn’t sure if he was ready for a girlfriend before but when we both met on the show, all the stars aligned.” Cass tells WHO that Nick was “the one that got away” because she never truly told him how she felt. But this time around, “I have put my
heart on the line and told him how I feel.”
It’s no secret down-to-earth beauty Brooke Blurton had Nick smitten from the get go – will he be able to attain the nod of approval from her family? “They’ve met only a few partners,” Brooke says. “I have been quite picky.” But the brunette tells WHO that Nick would have no trouble slotting in to what she calls her “unusual family group.” Despite saying their relationship has a lot of potential, the youth worker reveals marriage isn’t on the cards with Nick. “We’re on the same page as to what we want in our life and who we’re looking for. I haven’t grown up with a lot of marriage myself but I do understand it’s a massive commitment that you have to be in the right time of your life for.”
The 23-year-old also believes the next Bachelor or Bachelorette should be open to dating both men and women. “Love is pretty powerful and I love the fact that love is love, and people should have the opportunity to go on the show regardless,” Brooke says.
So does this mean she’s ready to say those three special words to Nick? “Our relationship is definitely on the right path and going in the right direction.”
