The fashion expert and reality TV regular, 48, teams up with his former Queer Eye for the Straight Guy co-star Thom Filicia, 49, to jazz up drab American homes in Get a Room with Carson & Thom (on hayu from Sat., Oct. 20).

What was it like working with Thom again? Queer Eye was about 10 years ago and we have remained friends, but we haven’t really worked together since. It took about 25 minutes for us to get back into the rhythm of shooting together, but [after that] we had a lot of fun – maybe too much fun sometimes. What can viewers expect from your new series? Every episode features an over-the-top Real Housewives kind of house with a big budget. At the same time, every episode has a more approachable space I’m kind of in charge of, that’s smaller but maybe more fun and wackier. What is the biggest mistake people make when they are decorating? Not being daring enough. Sometimes it can be intimidating because, unlike shoes or a dress, a couch is a much larger investment. But I always tell people to look at your closet, see the colours and patterns you like to wear and that’s a good indication of what you like. What do you think of the new Queer Eye guys? Originally, it was like when your ex gets a new partner. But then we actually got to meet the guys and they are doing such great work. I think all of us on the original cast are thrilled because they are great successors to carry the torch forward. Starring on the original Queer Eye opened a lot of doors for you. What has been the favourite thing you’ve done since then? I feel like I haven’t really worked since Queer Eye because I’ve had so many fun jobs. This will sound insane but one of the most fun things was going into the jungle with the Aussie celebs on I’m a Celebrity…get Me Out of Here! I made such good friends with Ash Pollard, Keira Maguire and Natalie Bassingthwaighte.
