Matty J & Laura’s NZ adventure

THE REALITY-TV COUPLE TAKE A BREATHTAKING ROAD TRIP THROUGH NEW ZEALAND’S SOUTH ISLAND

-

Since finding each other on the 2017 season of The Bachelor “Matty J” Johnson, 31, and partner Laura Byrne, 32, have spent much of the year travelling the world. We caught up with them after their recent road trip on New Zealand’s South Island.

What made you choose to do a road trip in NZ’S South Island? JOHNSON I think the best thing is that it’s a pretty small island so you can get to see so many places fairly easily. What was the best part? BYRNE The thing I love about road tripping in New Zealand is that at no point in time do you think the scenery is a bit boring – it is gorgeous the whole way. We had to stop ourselves from pulling over every five minutes to take photos. What was your favourite stop? JOHNSON I think Wanaka is a destination you cannot miss. It’s a small, quaint town, perched beside a glacier lake about an hour away from Queenstown. It has the most incredible food. What do you look for when you’re booking a holiday? JOHNSON When we go away we like to have moments when it’s romantic and relaxing, but at the same time we don’t mind veering off the beaten track and having a small dose of adventure. Is that why you did so many thrill-seeking activities? BYRNE New Zealand is so well known for all the snow activities but we really got to experience some of the things you can do there any time of the year. Any plans to go back to New Zealand? JOHNSON I’d like to try and do the North Island – I’ve been told there’s incredible surf.

?? ?? “We went mountain biking in Wanaka,” says Laura. “I had an electric bike so it was quite easy. Matty was on a mountain bike, so I was speeding up the hills while he actually had to put some effort in!”
