Melania Trump
The First Lady of America made a political issue very personal
IN A RARE MOVE, FIRST LADY of the US Melania Trump has taken it upon herself to demand the firing of national security adviser Mira Ricardel.
Stephanie Grisham, Trump’s spokeswoman, released a statement saying, “It is the position of the Office of the First Lady that she no longer deserves the honour of serving in this White House.” Grisham did not offer any further explanation for the statement, however reports suggest the firing was linked to a conflict that arose during her trip to Africa in October.
Days before the formal announcement was made, Ricardel was among a group of administration officials and other individuals who stood behind President Donald Trump at a White House ceremony celebrating Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the two fought over seating on the aeroplane and asking to use the council’s resources.
Many sources familiar with the matter told independent news agency Reuters that Trump aired her frustrations to her husband, telling him she was unimpressed with how she was being treated by Ricardel.
As a result, the adviser has since stepped down from her position. On Nov. 15, a White House spokeswoman said Ricardel “departs the White House to transition to a new role within the administration”.•
