A MURDERER’S MOTIVE: A SECRET MISTRESS

Although her identity was originally kept confidential by authorities, Nichol Kessinger worried about being publicly shamed as Chris Watts’ secret lover. Four days after Watts was arrested for the murders, Kessinger googled questions about the mistress of another infamous killer, Scott Peterson, who was convicted of the Dec. 2002 murder of his wife Laci and unborn son, Conner. On Aug. 19, according to police documents, Kessinger searched, “Did people hate Amber Frey?” Just like Frey, Kessinger contacted and co-operated with police. After Watts pleaded guilty, she spoke to The Denver Post and said that she “barely knew” Watts and found out his wife was pregnant when the news broke she and their daughters were missing. “I don’t think there is a logical explanation for what he did,” she said. “It’s a senseless act, and it’s horrific.”
