The original 1981 film is hailed as one of the greatest pieces of German cinema of all time, but this six-part sequel is a very different beast. Set in 1942, at the height of World War II, it divides its time between the experiences on Nazi submarines and the political intrigue and cloakand-dagger spy action playing out on land.
