LIVE THE LA LIFESTYLE

IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THE OUTDOOR CULTURE

-

As we made our way from LAX airport, I wound down the window of our car, felt the sun’s rays press against my cheeks and couldn’t contain my excitement as we passed every giant billboard dedicated to some of my latest Netflix guilty pleasures. Within 30 minutes we reached the giant W statue that sparkled at the front of our West Hollywood hotel.

After a quick nap and shower I made my way up to the rooftop bar for a dip in the pool with a strawberry daiquiri in hand. Guests were lying about during the perfect 27 degree day; I followed suit and delved into a book.

Soon it was dinner time and the mood had shifted, LA locals were ready to party. We headed out for Mexican and when the Americans say they love their chilli, they’re not exaggerating, and we order margaritas with a hint of heat and an assortment of tapas at Broken Spanish.

The next night we figured we were in the city of the stars, so we made our way to Sunset Boulevard to see a film – it was Halloween – and when the attendant explained they were showing Hocus Pocus, I was thrilled. But perhaps the choice of film wasn’t the only attraction. We’d stumbled across the Rooftop Cinema Club at Neuehouse – admittedly, there was popcorn, but there was also a staffed bar, comfy deckchairs and wireless headphones so that even if your neighbour wanted to chat during the movie, you didn’t have to listen.

On other nights we visited more restaurants and took in the culinary delights, but it was the day trips to amusement parks like Universal Studios that brought me pure joy, from maxing out my credit card in the gift shop, to drinking Butterbeer at Harry Potter World.

Oh, and like anyone who heads to LA, I’d have to say my highlight was lining up for a ride, only to see Transformers star Megan Fox smiling at me from behind.
