ith more than 15 years’ experience perfecting customers’ eyebrows, and a high-profile clientele who demand she travels to London every eight weeks from Australia to personally service brows, we thought, who better to talk to for all the latest on the brow game than the “arch-angel to the stars” herself, Amy Jean.

With so many different eyebrow products on the market and so many treatments on offer, from waxing and threading to permanent and semi-permanent options such as tattooing and henna, it can be somewhat overwhelming. To understand what to buy, we first need to know – why are the brows such an important feature?

“They have the capacity to make or break a face. When done well, they provide symmetry and definition and shed years off our appearance,” says Jean. Let’s face it, she had us at “years off our appearance” but we’re here to learn more ... So what’s new in products and treatments?

“I’m loving lightened brows. It’s not for everyone, but we just released a new product in the Amy Jean Privée Collection [which has just launched on net-a-porter.com] called Brow Lacquer. The lightest shade (01) acts like highlights for your brows, which in turn gives a fuller, 3D appearance. Lightening brows makes them appear larger and the gaps are less noticeable. Imagine beach highlights but for your brows,” says Jean.

For those of us who grew up with the muses of the 1990s, like the OG supermodels Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista, you probably plucked the bejesus out

of your brows in an attempt to get the highest of arches and thinnest of brow lines. Step ahead into the future and the brows are a little lacklustre, to say the least.

Never fear, according to Jean, her eyebrow muse is none other than pop queen, Gwen Stefani. “She is the perfect example of the ultimate brow rehab! Gwen had the poster skinny-mini brows of the ’90s and she’s managed to grow them out to a shape that is perfection.”

Other lust-worthy brow awards go to natural brow beauties Miranda Kerr and Camilla Belle, Jean says.

If your brows haven’t quite recovered as well as Gwen’s, don’t despair, there are many options for repair. “Have a professional demonstrate a few different product options to build up the thickness,” says Jean. “For instance, a pencil alone can work wonders, however adding texture with a fluffy powder can give more of a believable finish.”

If you’re tired of designing your brows on a daily basis, Jean says you could investigate the possibility of feather-stroke brow tattooing or “mist” airbrush brow tattoo. For more information on these treatments, head to amyjean.com.au.

SO HOT RIGHT NOW…

The most popular treatment for 2019 for Jean is: “Mist airbrush tattooing for the brows and lips. It’s growing in popularity as it creates a soft, powdery and natural finish. The procedure is very topical so no scarring is caused on the skin.”
