Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper
THE SINGER CONFIRMS SHE AND COOPER ARE JUST FRIENDS
THEIR ON-SCREEN CHEMISTRY IN A STAR IS BORN has been speculated to be a real romance, but Lady Gaga has assured fans her connection with Bradley Cooper is purely platonic and simply part of their larger act while playing characters Ally and Jackson Maine in the Grammy-winning film. Despite their believable and steamy connection during their live Oscars performance – which caused a few headlines – Gaga appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on February 27 and shut down rumours.
“Yes, people saw love and guess what? That’s what we wanted you to see,” the actress-singer, 32, told Kimmel. “[‘Shallow’] is a love song, A Star Is Born is a love story,” she explained. “It was so important to both of us that we were connected the entire time … When you’re singing love songs, that’s what you want people to feel.”
Gaga’s statement came after reports in The Sun that Cooper’s girlfriend, Irina Shayk, 33, had unfollowed Lady Gaga on social media. Even though Gaga and Shayk were snapped smiling alongside each other at the Academy Awards, the British online newspaper reported that Shayk is growing frustrated after reading speculative stories about Cooper and Gaga being more than friends. A source said: “The stories about Irina being sick of Gaga have some truth to them – it’s not that she dislikes Gaga or is jealous of her, but she’s sick of the constant stories about her ‘close’ relationship with Bradley.”
The source also reflected on one of Shayk’s previous relationships. “She’s no stranger to cheating rumours – she dated Cristiano Ronaldo, after all – but it’s been a long publicity campaign and she’s ready for it to end.” However, the source also said Shayk is not angry and is proud of Cooper. “She’s actually thrilled at how successful the movie has been and really wanted to go to the Oscars.” •
