MORE SHOCKING MURDERS

ROBERT ARTHUR SELBY LOWE (SHEREE BEASLEY)

The Sunday school teacher abducted 6-year-old Sheree Beasley from a Melbourne milk bar in June 1991. After sexually assaulting and choking her to death, he left Sheree’s body in a stormwater drain where she was discovered three months later. In 1994 Lowe was sentenced to life imprisonment.

GARRY NEWMAN (CARLY RYAN)

Posing as a young guitarist, Newman, 50, groomed 15-year-old Carly Ryan before meeting her in person and pretending to be his alter-ego’s father. When she rejected his sexual advances, Newman assaulted, suffocated and then drowned her. He was sentenced to life in prison with a 29-year non-parole period in 2010.

LESLIE CAMILLERI AND LINDSAY BECKETT (LAUREN BARRY AND NICHOLE COLLINS)

The men abducted, raped and murdered Melbourne schoolgirls Lauren Barry, 14, and Nichole Collins, 16, in 1997. During their trials it was revealed that weeks before the murders, they had abducted 19-year-old Rosamari Gandarias. In 2012 Camilleri received 28 years for killing 13-year-old Prudence Bird in 1992.

RICK THORBURN ( TIAHLEIGH PALMER)

Tiahleigh Palmer was murdered by her foster father in October 2015 after he learnt that his son, Trent, 18, had sexually abused the 12-year-old. Trent was jailed, as were other members of his family, while Rick was sentenced to 20 years in jail without parole. On sentencing he claimed to have no memory of killing his foster daughter.

BRETT PETER COWAN (DANIEL MORCOMBE)

Daniel Morcombe, 13, was abducted near his Sunshine Coast home by Cowan in December 2003. His remains were discovered in 2011, just days after Cowan was charged with the boy’s murder and other offences. After being found guilty on all charges, the previously convicted child abuser is now serving life in prison with the chance of parole after 20 years.

ANDREW PETER GARFORTH (EBONY SIMPSON)

Ebony Simpson, 9, was on her way home from school in Bargo, a small town in Sydney’s south-west in August 1992, when she was abducted by Garforth. He bound her with wire, raped her and then threw her into a dam with her backpack full of rocks. He was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole in 1993.
