SARAH WILSON OPENS UP ABOUT HER STRUGGLE TO BECOME A MOTHER

-

AUSTRALIAN JOURNALIST AND TV personality Sarah Wilson has opened up about her difficult journey towards motherhood on the latest episode of WHO’S podcast Who Are You?

“I defined my life around not being able to have children,” Wilson tells host Pete Timbs. “In fact, I Quit Sugar became my legacy, like this is what I can do, I can create content and contribute and that satisfied me to a certain extent,” she says. “I was told I wouldn’t be able to have children, then two-and-a-half years ago I got pregnant, and I really wasn’t expecting it,” Wilson says of her surprise pregnancy.

The I Quit Sugar creator revealed that, sadly, after losing the baby, she went on to miscarry three more times by the age of 45. “I went on this journey as I’d been given this gift at the age of 42, to suddenly get pregnant naturally with no insemination or support or assistance,” she says.

Wilson shares that after the last three miscarriages – the most recent being only a few weeks ago – she is now no longer trying to conceive.

“I’ve arrived at the point where I’m like, ‘ That’s it,’ ” she says. “It takes it out of you, psychologically and physically.”

Instead, Wilson has chosen to put her nurturing nature to good use by committing to another path of motherhood, fostering Aboriginal children. “I wanted to go where the need was greatest. At the moment I’m doing emergency care, where I take the person for a week, or weekend or two weeks.” •
