WHAT SUGARING WHERE EARTH + SKIN, MUDGEERABA, QLD COST $140 FOR FULL LEG AND BIKINI

- HANNAH HEMPENSTALL WHO Wellness Editor

Having had laser hair removal on my bikini line, there’s been no need to wax that area for years. However, laser has left me with lots of small, ‘plucked chicken’ type bumps that I loathe. (TMIF, I know …). I’m a regular gym goer so being sweat-free and keeping those pores clear is an ongoing battle. So, I thought I’d try sugaring and get the hairs on my legs (which I usually shave) removed at the same time. Not just a hair removal system, sugaring is a way to detox your pores, which was what I wanted for my bikini line. The similarity to waxing is that there’s a warm paste applied to the skin with a spatula, but that’s where the sameness ends. Unlike wax, sugaring is a blend of lemon juice, sugar and water – essentially lemon toffee. It’s heated but doesn’t feel as hot as wax on the skin and because it’s 100 per cent natural, any residue is easily wiped off with a warm cloth. Another main difference is that the paste is applied against the hair growth and removed in the same direction as your hairs – the opposite to waxing. The benefit is that your hairs don’t get broken off at different lengths and over time will grow back in sync with each other. It took about 35 minutes to remove the hairs on my legs as well as treat my bikini line, and the results are amazing. Three weeks later my bikini area is still smooth and my legs are hair-free. Sugaring is so painless and can treat any area that you’d traditionally have waxed, so, next time, it’ll be my eyebrows!
