Inside their ceremony and the real reason behind their quickie Vegas wedding
HOURS AFTER PARTYING at the Billboard Music Awards on May 1 — where the Jonas Brothers performed at their first awards show as a band in a decade — Joe Jonas and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner kept the celebrations going with a surprise wedding in Las Vegas. The ceremony, which was documented on Diplo’s Instagram live feed, was officiated by an Elvis impersonator at Chapel L’Amour inside A Little White Wedding Chapel.
Turner, 23, walked down the aisle in a flowing silk Bevza jumpsuit paired with a long veil and gold Loeffler Randall mules, while Dan + Shay performed an acoustic version of their hit ‘Speechless’.
Jonas, 29, and his brothers Nick and Kevin, who served as his groomsmen, stood side-byside at the altar waiting for her in matching grey suits. “I promise you I will never leave you. I will love and trust you, all the days of my life,” the couple recited in their vows.
“In sickness and in health … forever and ever.”
A source tells WHO that the pair wed in the US so that their marriage is legitimate when they say “I do” at a bigger ceremony in France. “They had to get married in the States to make it legal, but the wedding is still in Europe,” says the source. “They thought this would be a fun way to make it legal,” another insider told E!
The couple started dating in November 2016 after Jonas slid into Turner’s Instagram direct messages following suggestions by mutual friends that they should meet. By December of that same year, a source told WHO that they were “dating exclusively” and Jonas was “willing to settle down for her”.
After nearly a year of dating, he took that next step, proposing to Turner in October 2017. In an interview for Harper’s Bazaar UK, Turner revealed she was looking forward to tying the knot. “We’re trying to keep the wedding as low key as possible, so it’s more of an intimate thing.” •
