‘I’M STILL SINGLE!’

The reality star gets honest about his love life

FOR JACK VIDGEN, BEING THRUST back into the spotlight has been an emotional roller-coaster and while he would love to win the The Voice, he says his strategy is to take it step by step. “I am stunned that I am still here, but I’m still grateful. I’m just trying to take each day as it comes,” he tells WHO.

While he garnered attention for his renditions of powerful ballads such as Adele’s ‘Hello’ and A Great Big World & Christina Aguilera’s ‘Say Something’, rumours have circulated about his romantic life, with some reports suggesting he is in a relationship with fellow Voice contestant Sheldon Riley.

“That’s so funny, Sheldon has a boyfriend. He’s had one for ages!” the 22-year-old says. “No, I am single!” Vidgen confirms. “I am single and happy and focusing on myself. I’m focusing on myself and my voice, and the show. I guess [with] relationships, I just kind of go with the flow. I’m really not looking for anything!

That’s not really in my mind at the moment.” Though his focus is on perfecting his performances on the reality-TV show, Vidgen says he still has his sights set on an international stage. “I do love America and love travelling. Music is definitely what I want to do in life and if that took me to overseas to Europe or the US, I am open to it.”

Vidgen has already spoken about having bad experiences when he moved to Los Angeles as a teen. “I just think the situation I was in for how young I was … There were a whole lot of elements, I don’t really want to go into it, because obviously it was a personal journey, but I think people can imagine what can happen when you’re that young and you’re mistreated, so you isolate yourself in a way.”

Still, the singer is ready to let go of the past and move towards a more positive future. “I’m just grateful at this point that I am able to come out from that place. I do love singing again.” •
