The Duchess of Sussex joins Prince Harry in London for a baseball match in support of The Invictus Foundation

-

SINCE WELCOMING SON ARCHIE ON May 6, Prince Harry has continued to fulfil his royal duties – most recently attending a Major League Baseball match between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox in London on June 30. And much to everyone’s delight, wife Meghan decided to come along for the day and show her support for the Invictus Games Foundation, which has been chosen as a charity partner for the US Major League Baseball.

Despite being energetic and full of smiles, new dad Harry, 34, revealed the couple had spent the night trying to settle their son, Archie, who is just 7 weeks old. Before watching the game, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said hello to Bianca Rainbow-Jones – who came along to support her husband who serves in the Air Force – and her 9-month-old daughter Raphaella, who was fussing. “They said, ‘We’ve just left [the screaming] – we had that about an hour before we came here!’ ” Rainbow-Jones said. “Harry said they had a sleepless night.”

Instead of catching up on some well-deserved shut-eye, Meghan, 37, had picked out a little black dress from one of her favourite designers, Stella McCartney, and laughed as she received a pint-sized New York Yankees jersey for her son, with ‘Archie’ and the number ‘19’ printed on the back.

The couple met both teams before watching the first-ever regular season MLB game played in London.

“I was very, very nervous. I haven’t felt this nervous in a while, but it was a great moment for the team,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora told ESPN about meeting the royals. “We were pleased to have them in the clubhouse.”

The event marks nine years since Prince Harry took part in a baseball game, where he threw the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Mets game in 2010. The ceremonial pitch for this game, however, was thrown by one of the

Invictus Games competitors. “I’m so glad they didn’t ask me to do it!” Meghan was heard saying.

Although she hasn’t officially returned from maternity leave – this was Meghan’s second royal outing since giving birth after she and Harry attended Trooping the Colour on June

8 – the Sussexes are have already announced their next royal tour, to Africa later this year.

“TRH The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are excited to announce that they have been asked to carry out a tour to Southern Africa this autumn,” their joint Instagram @sussexroyal revealed on June 28.

“The Duke and Duchess are really looking forward to meeting so many of you on the ground and continuing to raise awareness of the high impact work local communities are doing across the Commonwealth and beyond.”

It was also announced that at only a few months old, baby Archie would be joining his parents for the trip. “This will be their first official tour as a family!” •
