FOUR MONTHS AFTER much speculation, Angelina Jolie, 44, confirmed on July 20 that she would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with a starring role in Eternals, due out in November 2020.

“I’m so excited to be here,” Jolie told the large crowd at a Comic-Con panel in San Diego alongside co-stars Richard Madden, Salma Hayek and Kumail Nanjiani. “I’m gonna work 10 times harder because, I think what it means to be a part of the MCU and what it means to be part of this family … We know what the task is ahead. We know what you deserve … We are all gonna be working very, very hard.”

The Oscar winner, who has spent the past few years engaged in advocacy work and honing her skills as a director, will first make her much-anticipated return to the big screen in Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, out in October.

On the home front, Jolie – she legally dropped ‘Pitt’ from her name in April – has kept busy with kids Maddox, 17, Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, while managing the fallout from her tumultuous split from Brad Pitt in September 2016. Having wrapped the thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead, which was filming in New Mexico, Jolie is focused on co-parenting with Pitt, 55. “The kids will spend time with their dad this summer, but they will see him at his Los Feliz home the way they always do,” a source told website Hollywood Life. “They have a schedule, and it’s all very co-ordinated.”

On July 17, Jolie was spotted with daughter Vivienne, stopping by a pet shop to pick out a new family member. “Angelina took Vivienne to pick out a bunny as part of her birthday gift,” says the Hollywood Life source. “All the kids love animals and Angelina is happy to indulge them … She’s doing every possible thing she can to make sure they come out of this divorce as well-adjusted as possible.” •
