WILLA FORD
The singer/actress-turned-interior designer, 38, discusses her involvement in Flip It Like Disick (continues Mon., Aug. 26 at 12pm; E! and streams on hayu).
How did you react when Scott Disick asked you to be part of his houseflipping team on the show?
I was a little hesitant. It was a little scary to step back in front of the camera after taking a step back. We talked about what my role would be and I felt confident as a company owner that we bring a lot to the table, so I felt OK doing it.
Many people have fixed opinions about Scott, but what’s he really like?
He’s been on TV for, like, 12 years now and if any of us took a look at our lives 12 years ago, who we were then and who we are now would be very different. So I can’t speak on Scott 12 years ago or even five years ago, but Scott now, I find him to be lovely. He’s very respectful, he’s a family guy, he has done a 180. Someone you don’t get on with on the show is the contractor Miki. Is that what it was really like or is the drama being played up a bit? No, what you see is what you really get. In the first episode, I think it was even pulled back a little for TV. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t in tears at one point – not in front of anybody. Scott had to step in and say, “Enough, Miki”. Had he not stepped in, I would not have been part of the team. As a woman, if I’m being disrespected in a group of men, I’m out. Have you experienced that from men before in your line of work?
Yeah, I have had issues with contractors and I don’t ever work with them again. We also see Kourtney Kardashian and Kris Jenner pop up. Would you be comfortable with their level of fame? That’s something you take one day at a time. They do a great job of protecting their family from it because it is such an absolute spotlight. I don’t think any of us can say, “I know what that’s like.” I don’t want to pretend my pop career or anyone I’ve dated has prepared me for what they go through.
