Miley Cyrus flaunts her new love with Australian singer Cody Simpson
Miley Cyrus has swapped one Aussie heartthrob for another. In the past week, the controversial singer has been flaunting her new fling with Gold Coast-born singer Cody Simpson, 22, on social media.
The romance comes two months after announcing her split from husband, Liam Hemsworth, and about two weeks after calling off her post-breakup romance with Kaitlynn Carter.
On October 3, Cyrus, 26, was caught on camera by TMZ kissing Simpson at a grocery store in Los Angeles, sending fans into a frenzy over the former Hannah Montana star’s new flame. Cyrus was quick to comment on her new love interest, taking to social media to address the footage and make their romance Instagram official.
Cyrus posted part of the TMZ footage with a note saying: “Can a girl not get a f--king acai bowl and a morning make out session in peace?!” She also posting a shirtless photo of Simpson, writing: “22 [tick emoji] Australian (my type)
[tick emoji] Abs [tick emoji] Hot Girl Fall [tick emoji].”
The video sent media into a frenzy, with Cyrus’ new fling coming just weeks after she reportedly ended things on good terms with Carter.
“There was no cheating or fighting involved in Miley’s decision to break things off after a two-month whirlwind romance,” a source told TMZ.
Cyrus and Carter, who were first linked after photos of them kissing on a yacht in Italy emerged, split because things got too serious too quickly. “Miley doesn’t want a serious relationship,” a source tells WHO. “She and Kaitlynn spent every day together and it just wasn’t anything that Miley wanted to continue doing … She wants to focus on her career.”
Clearly fed up with the constant speculation surrounding her love life since splitting with Hemsworth in August, Cyrus took to her Instagram Stories to pen an impassioned post on October 3.
“I know the public feels invested in my past relationship because they felt like they saw it thru from the beginning [sic],” she wrote. “I think that’s why people have always felt so entitled over my life and how I live it because they’ve watched me grow up. But I am grown now and make choices as an adult knowing the truth/details/reality. People only ‘know’ what they see on the internet.”
Cyrus went on to call out the media speculation over her love life as “s--t shaming” and said she refuses to date in private and become a “recluse”.
“This ‘dating’ thing is new to me too. I’ve never been an “adult” / grown ass woman experiencing this [sic],” she continued. “I was in a committed relationship for almost all my teens and early 20s; with the exception of a few breaks, which usually in those times I was working my ass off with not much R&R ... and ‘meeting/trusting’ people in my position is really tuff … Get used to me dating – this is where I’m at!”
Staying true to her word, Cyrus and Simpson – who is rumoured to be one of the celebrities on Channel 10’s The Masked Singer – both spent the weekend posting a number of saucy snaps to their respective social media accounts.
On October 5, Simpson shared a photo of him kissing the pop star along with the words: “Pre swim breakfast courtesy of baby.” Cyrus then made fun of the Australian-born singer, posting a photo of herself and captioning it, “BABY”.
The new couple were together again on October 6, apparently watching Survivor. Simpson, who previously dated supermodel Gigi Hadid, also posted a video to his Instagram Stories of the pair with their heads together singing love song ‘More Today Than Yesterday’ by the band Spiral Starecase.
Since the pair were spotted locking lips, a video has resurfaced of then 15-year-old Cody telling now-defunct Fuse magazine about his feelings for Cyrus. “I knew all the words to her songs, I’m not going to lie,” a young Simpson confesses in the video. “I’m not ashamed about it, at all. I was a big Miley Cyrus fan. I think she will be forever the most dateable Disney star.”
The pair have been friends for many years and have often been spotted hanging out in public. “Miley is one of my best friends and she helps with some of that transitional stuff – trying to escape your childhood,” Simpson said in 2015. “She’s super open-minded and I’m working on becoming more like that.”
The new couple aren’t in a hurry to put a label on anything, however. “Cody and Miley have no plans to start dating each other exclusively,” a source told Entertainment Tonight. “They both just want to have fun and are open and honest with each other about that. Miley and Cody have been friends for years. They have hooked up in the past.”
