HERMIONE NORRIS
The British actress, 52, returns as Karen Marsden in Cold Feet Season 8 (on Acorn TV from Mon., Oct. 14).
Where do we find Karen as Season 8 begins? The season starts with a wedding, and there’s a typical [creator] Mike Bullen montage of whose wedding is it? All the family and friends are there to celebrate, and Karen is actually happy in her life. She’s found quite a peaceful place. That can’t last, can it?
There are a few key things that happen that affect the whole group. The strength of this season is you really see that core group dynamic. They’re dealing with teenage children, illness, relationships as always.
Does the fact the children are grown up reinforce how long Cold Feet has been around? It’s incredible really. We’ve just come back together for Season 9 and every time we regroup, it’s [a reminder] that it’s a whole lifetime since we’ve all worked together. It’s like being in a family reunion that doesn’t end.
Is the dynamic between you all the same?
I think so. In any group, you tend to slot back into a similar dynamic. We’ve been through a lot together – a lot of life.
What keeps you coming back to do more seasons?
I was concerned about it coming back [with Season 6 after a 13-year gap]. Often remakes don’t work and, it having been so loved, I was worried about making something really good. But there was a real conviction that everyone wanted to bring it back, so I thought, “Let’s go for it.” Season 9 will be our last one – we don’t want it to go on and on and get tired. Could Cold Feet return in another 13 years?
If we’re all still alive, yes! [Laughs]
