Adele’s new life

The singer gets set for a major comeback

-

Adele was on a high while celebrating her best friend Laura Dockrill’s wedding to Hugo White at the Mason’s Arms pub in London. Looking slim and stylish in a voluminous floral-print skirt, Adele grabbed the microphone to belt out songs with the bride including her hit ‘Rolling in the Deep’ and the Beyoncé banger, ‘Crazy in Love.’ Leaving the bash, however, she appeared agitated as she made her way to the car. After some time away from the public eye, following her split from husband Simon Konecki, announced almost a year ago, the ‘Someone Like You’ singer is juggling single motherhood and being back in the spotlight with a brand new lifestyle. These days, the mum to son Angelo, 7, is following a strict diet and fitness routine.

Earlier this month a source told WHO that the singer was seen attending Guy Oseary’s Oscars afterparty, where she wore a beaded leopard-print dress that also accentuated her fit figure. “She looked like herself but also so different,” the source said. “Beautiful but almost unrecognisable.”

To achieve such drastic results, a complete lifestyle overhaul was required. “Her whole focus during the weight-loss journey has really been all about how she can be healthier and how can she treat her body better,” another source tells WHO. “It was never about losing weight. Her weight loss happened because she has cut down drinking and is eating more real food.”

Still, having shed an incredible 45kg, she has been targeted by online comments accusing her of looking “sick”, “unhealthy” and “too thin”. It follows years of callous comments about the singer’s weight struggles.

Her shock transformation has led some health experts to question her reported 4184kJ (1000 cal) a day Sirtfood Diet, which allows only certain foods to be eaten that activate the body’s sirtuins, a type of protein that plays a role in regulating metabolism and burning fat. Nutrition commentator Dale Pinnock warned it could have adverse side effects such as brain fog and irritability. “If you’ve got a short-term goal, [it] could be suitable – if you want to lose weight for a wedding or holiday. But [it] isn’t sustainable. There will be a cut off because after a while your body will start to down regulate the things it will do.”

TV doctor Zoe Williams agrees. “1000 calories a day isn’t sustainable, and you set yourself up to fail,” she said.

But Adele’s friends say her slim down is the result of a healthier outlook on life. “She feels great both physically and mentally,” a source close to the star told WHO. “She feels stronger, has more energy and acts very happy.” And busy – this week, Adele revealed that her fourth album will be released in September, five years after the bestselling 25.

“In 2017 she lost quite a bit of weight, but she’d have these moments when she was often completely starving an hour after a workout, and those were the times she’d slip and eat rubbish,” a friend tells The Sun. “She calls it ‘starvation stuffing’, so she got a chef who’s also a nutritionist. She’s eating a whole range of things, but focusing on alkaline foods such as vegetables and grains, and trying to cut out processed foods and sugar.”

Despite the pressures, Adele is ready for 2020 to be her best year yet.

“She loves her physical transformation,” says the WHO source. “She is more confident, dresses differently and she just seems happier overall.”
