YOUNGER RETURNS
THE COMEDY-DRAMA IS COMING TO AN END WITH SEASON 7
It’s been 19 months since Younger dropped a massive bombshell on viewers in the Season 6 finale. And while the good news is that the series is set to return, the bad news is that it’s time to say goodbye to Liza (Sutton Foster) and the crew at Empirical Publishing as this will be their final chapter. The show, which centres around Liza Miller, a 40-year-old divorced mother who lied about being in her 20s to get a job in the publishing industry, is returning to Stan on April 15. And the first four episodes of the 12-part season are dropping all at once!
After a jam-packed cliffhanger in 2019, series creator Darren Star has promised it’s leading up to something big. “It felt like there was a lot of story to tell in this [sixth] season and next season becomes something different. We sort of set the table for what that is at the end of this season,” Star told The Hollywood Reporter.
The new episodes will pick up straight after Liza’s boss and boyfriend Charles Brooks (Peter Hermann) asked her to marry him. And as the show draws near the end there is one storyline that is certain to finally be resolved, with Liza being forced to choose between the sexy older man and her sweet ex Josh (Nico Tortorella).
While it might appear that Liza is getting everything she’s longed for with Charles’ proposal, a season preview shows her confessing to best friend
Maggie (Debi Mazar) that she is hesitant and still carrying a torch for the younger tattoo artist.
“I don’t think [Liza and Josh] can let each other go,” Foster, 46, confessed to US TV Guide magazine of her character. “There’s something, they have a connection that runs deep. She loves Charles and is in a relationship with him, but she will always love Josh,” she explained.
But Liza’s love-life won’t be the only cause of drama, with Kelsey Peters (Hilary Duff ) landing in hot water with psychopathic socialite Quinn (Laura Benanti) when she double-crosses her by returning to Charles’ company as a partner, after briefly going out on her own.
While we don’t know how it will end, one thing is for certain, viewers aren’t the only ones who will miss the cutthroat drama from inside the fictional New York City-based publishing house. The cast took to social media to pay tribute to the series after filming their final scenes.
Mazer praised Duff, 33, for retuning to coronavirus-stricken New York City to wrap up the show. “I adore this woman and I’m so proud of her,” Mazer, 56, shared on Instagram. “Not only is she a fierce broad, an amazing mother, but also a generous, seasoned actress with a wicked sense of humour. Hilary was brave enough to finish out this season in NYC (she’s a Los Angeles gal) during a pandemic and very pregnant!” she added.
But Foster summed it up best with her simple Instagram post. “Oh Liza … I’m gonna miss u,” she shared.
