KELLY’S SOBRIETY BATTLE

THE STAR BRAVELY ADMITS SHE’S FALLEN OFF THE WAGON AFTER FOUR YEARS

- By Sara Tapia

She’s never been shy about sharing her journey to sobriety and for Kelly Osbourne that means owning up to the slip-ups she has along the way. The 36-year-old got candid in an interview with Extra, admitting she recently relapsed after almost four years sober. “I am an addict and had thought that I had enough time under my belt and I could drink like a normal person,” she confessed. “And it turns out I cannot and I will never be normal.”

The Project Runway judge revealed a nervous breakdown during the COVID-19 lockdown in Los Angeles led to her slip. “I don’t know why my nervous breakdown happened at the end of the lockdown, I made it all the way through, everything was great, and my life was perfect,” she shared.

“I’m that girl that when everything is going great, I need to f--k it up a little and make everything a little bit worse in my life.”

Although the former reality star admitted sobriety is “never going to be easy” for her, it only took a few days for Osbourne to realise that she wanted back on the wagon. “I don’t know why I even tried it,” she said. “It’s not for me and it took me a matter of days and I was like done, not doing this.”

Osbourne first spoke about her relapse in late April, telling fans in a candid Instagram video that she was “not proud of it”. “This is a little hard for me to talk about, but I’ve always promised you that I will always be honest with you about where I’m at and what’s going on in my road to recovery,” she shared.

Explaining why she decided to go public with her relapse, Osbourne admitted that by “being accountable and owning your own journey and sharing what you can go through, you can help other people.” “That’s why I came clean,” she said. “I could have sat here, and nobody would know.”

The Osbournes alum and her family – including dad Ozzy,

72, mum Sharon, 68, and brother Jack, 35 – have a long history with addiction issues. Her first stint in rehab was at age 19, followed by another visit the following year. “The first time I took a Vicodin pill was at a club in LA,” Osbourne admitted to WHO’s sister publication People magazine back in 2009. “I felt like the walls were closing in on me. Someone said, ‘Take one of these.’ Within 45 minutes I was the life of the party. I thought, ‘I can take one of these and I don’t have to worry about if I’m dressed right or look fat.’”

In August 2018, the star announced she was one year sober and had maintained her sobriety right up until this most recent slip-up. But despite the setback, Osbourne is keeping her head up, having learned “it truly is one day at a time”. “This is something I am going to battle for the rest of my life,” she added.
